Section Manager, Geekly Inc.
Mr. Ryohei Yamazaki Graduated from Chuo University, Faculty of Commerce in 2018, and joined Geekly Inc. After working in corporate sales and marketing, he experienced the launch of a new department. Currently, he is a manager of individual sales and is involved in a wide variety of planning and improvement projects within the company.
Ltd. operates “Geekly,” a recruitment agency for the IT/web/gaming industry, as well as “GeeklyMedia,” an on-demand media specialized in the same industry, and “Geekly Review,” a review site.
Established in 2011, the company is an agency that supports job seekers with its highly specialized know-how accumulated over the years. The company boasts a high retention rate of 97% (as of March 2024). With over 37,000 job openings (as of September 2024), Geekly offers a wide variety of options to help IT job seekers secure the best job offers.
While we are constantly improving the functionality of the “My Page” for job seekers based on customer feedback, the design of the UI and other aspects of the site have been pieced together, resulting in a lack of a sense of unity. In addition, there was a discrepancy between the design of areas that were being improved and those that were not being cared for. To resolve these issues, we worked with HumAIn on the My Page renewal project. We asked them to look back on that time and talk about the points where they were able to make improvements, as well as the skills and learnings that they are still applying today.

Job seeker retention rate of 97%, specializing in the IT/Web/gaming industry
Despite increased number of job seekers and active improvement activities, consistency of design has deteriorated.
Job change agent service: My Page design renewed for job seekers
Specializing in the IT/web/gaming industry, with a threat of a 97% retention rate after changing jobs.
Please tell us more about your company's services and strengths.
Yamazaki: Geekly is a service that supports job changes in the IT/web/game industry, mainly for full-time employees. Our strengths are that we specialize in the IT industry and that we have a high retention rate after changing jobs.
Since Geekly was first established, we have been specializing exclusively in the IT field, so we are able to improve our knowledge and experience on a daily basis, and we make full use of it to contribute to companies and job seekers. While some other agencies may move into other fields once they have achieved a certain level of success, we place importance on providing “high quality services tailored to each individual job seeker. That is why we have not changed our focus on specializing in the IT field.
We are also proud of our “high retention rate after job change,” with a 95% success rate in finding the IT position of your choice. We believe that this is a result of our ability to provide support that prevents mismatches between job seekers and companies by taking advantage of the deep know-how we have accumulated through our specialized expertise.

What other services, if any, are unique to Geekly?
Yamazaki: Yes, as a matter of fact, we do. While it is common to see general recruitment agents using tools to generate resumes and CVs, our unique service is to conduct interviews with job seekers and have a full-time staff member produce them on their behalf.
At first, this support method was a one-person experiment, but when we received several positive reviews, we expanded it to include a team and eventually developed it into a service.

That's why Geekly is “structured and executable!
Yamazaki: Thank you very much!
Improvement activities increase as job seekers increase, but design consistency deteriorates
What challenges did you face at the time?
Yamazaki: Because of the same commitment to “structure and execution” now as then, functional improvements continued to be made at a tremendous pace. On the other hand, although there was room for improvement in design, the lack of designers meant that it was not keeping pace with the evolution of the functional aspects. The design that had not been worked on remained old-fashioned, with the look and feel of the company's core system when Geekly was first developed.
In addition, the members who proposed functional improvements were working on their own, and since the foundation for common rules for tonmanas, etc. had not been fully established, there was no consistency in the design.
When we proposed the project, you were comparing other companies, but what were the deciding factors in your final decision to choose HumAIn?
Yamazaki: Of course, the design ability and track record were one of the deciding factors, but the “ease of working on the project” was by far the most important. Specifically, we trusted them in terms of speed of delivery and response time, and the strength of their commitment to the project.
At Geekly, we try to hire “pleasant people” and make our company and organization “pleasant,” so we also want to work with “pleasant people” in our partner companies who accompany us on projects. In particular, this My Page renewal project was intended to be a long-term project, so this was an important point that could not be overlooked. From our first meeting, I had a strong feeling that HumAIn and I would be able to work together on the project.

What other reasons did you have for choosing HumAIn, Inc.
Yamazaki: HumAIn Inc. was very good at taking a proposal-based approach. At the time, Geekly's design technology and knowledge were still in the growth stage, so what we could do in the project process was to “speak for the customer's point of view” and “speak for the salespeople who use My Page in the field. In short, we could provide a general framework of “what would be great to do” and “what would be good in this situation,” but that was all we could do.
We didn't know how to express these ideas concretely and how to realize them in the design of My Page, so it was very encouraging that everyone at HumAIn Inc. digested the situation of our My Page and gave us many suggestions. As the project progressed, there were many occasions when we were able to work together as one team.
What impressed you about the way the project was carried out?
Yamazaki: When we expressed our ideas of what we would like to see in the MTG, we were able to operate Figma on the spot and ask questions such as, “Is this the way you envisioned it?
I look back on this as a way of proceeding that made it difficult for us to rework things. Of course, we had to set deadlines for the detailed parts of the project. Also, the design and the lines of communication were excellent, and the design was well linked to the functions of the site.

How do you evaluate the results?
Yamazaki: I am satisfied! The issues we were aware of at the time, such as “old-fashioned” and “cheesy,” have been firmly improved, and we were able to renew the site into something cool and current that we are not embarrassed to show anywhere. The UI design has been dramatically improved in terms of operability, navigation, and button placement.
Thanks to HumAIn, we were able to create a “well intended layout” for My Page.
Thank you very much! What was the feedback from Geekly members when this renewal was completed?
Yamazaki: We were very excited with the improved design!
Since our strength is “structure and execution,” we feel that our attachment to the project has been further strengthened because the design has been dramatically improved without changing the functional parts that have been improved so far. We also appreciate the fact that you provided us with a variety of materials so as not to spoil the sense of unity of the design, as improvement activities will continue in the future.

Finally, what is the future outlook for your services?
Yamazaki: Geekly consistently aims to be an infrastructure for IT/Web/gaming industry recruitment. From a company's HR perspective, “If you are in trouble, use Geekly and you will get a good candidate! From a job seeker's point of view, “If you use Geekly, you can get a job at a good company! From a job seeker's point of view, we strive to earn the trust of our clients.
In order to reach a higher level, we need to expand our capabilities and the scale of what we can deliver, while keeping an eye on the quality of service we can provide and helping each and every job seeker to get the best job offer possible. Geekly will continue to develop its services with a focus on “quality” in order to boost the IT industry in Japan!
